Thursday witnessed a heated exchange in the Parliament complex leading to a scuffle which left BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi injured. The BJP and Congress have been sharply blaming each other in escalating tension over the incident.

What Happened?

The fight happened near Parliament’s Makar Gate. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Sarangi said, had pushed another MP, who fell on him, resulting in his head injury. He was rushed to RML Hospital for treatment, where doctors confirmed he had deep head injuries which needed stitches. BJP MP Mukesh Rajput suffered dizziness, high blood pressure and was admitted to the ICU for being injured.

Sarangi’s Allegations Against Rahul Gandhi

Sarangi blamed Rahul Gandhi for instigating the incident, stating:
“Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP, who fell on me and caused my injuries.”
Sarangi’s visible injuries and need for medical attention have fueled BJP’s calls for strict action against Gandhi.

Congress Responds With Counterclaims

The allegations were dismissed by Congress, which also charged BJP MPs with roughing its leaders, Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi during a protest. They said their protest was against the alleged disrespect of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the scuffle was an attempt to suppress their voices. The BJP’s allegations were branded politically motivated and baseless by Congress leaders.

Political and Legal Implications

And it comes amid a growing rift between the two major political parties.

•          BJP’s Stance: BJP leaders demanded that Rahul Gandhi should be made accountable, and also asked for enhanced safety protocols in Parliament.

•          Congress’s Viewpoint: Attacks on the BJP accused it of politicising the event and diverting public attention from pressing national issues.

Concerns Over Safety and Decorum

The scuffle has raised questions about the safety of lawmakers and the need to maintain dignity in Parliament. Physical confrontations not only harm individuals but also undermine the credibility of democratic institutions.

Conclusion

The standards of behavior in Parliament are now deteriorating. Dialogue and respect, not confrontation, must become the priority for the both parties to begin mending the baking down of order and democratic values. The scuffle is a call for improvements in parliamentary safety and a better political culture.
